Changing Yahoo! Profiles in Yahoo! Groups

Let’s have the following scenario:

  • user has two Yahoo! Profiles: ilovegoogle and iloveyahoo
  • user belongs to several Yahoo! Groups using the iloveyahoo profile
  • user wishes to transfer her membership to several groups from iloveyahoo to ilovegoogle

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Make sure that both ilovegoogle and iloveyahoo profiles have the same primary email address say, emailaddress@gmail.com. You can verify it by logging in to Yahoo! and visiting http://profiles.yahoo.com/. It’s under Account Info.
  2. Make sure that all group messages are being sent to the primary email address, emailaddress@gmail.com. Verify by visiting http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups. All email addresses under the Email Address column should be emailaddress@gmail.com.
  3. Sign in as ilovegoogle. This is the profile which is in the receiving end of the transfer.
  4. Visit a group where iloveyahoo is a member and click the Join This Group! button.
  5. A page will be presented and somewhere there is a text which reads “The following email addresses from Account Info are not available for this membership: emailaddress@gmail.com (Already a member with another Yahoo! ID. Edit this Membership)”
  6. Click the Edit this Membership link and another page will be presented.
  7. Click the Save Changes button. Be aware that iloveyahoo can no longer access the membership transferred to ilovegoogle.
  8. Repeat until all memberships have been transferred.

I think that’s it. If something is wrong, please notify me.

Re-enabling PHP in User Directories in Ubuntu 10.04

If you happen to develop PHP applications in ~/pubic_html instead of in /var/www and you have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), you will be surprised that your PHP applications are not working anymore and your browser just prompts you to download something.

It turns out that the following lines were added to /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php5.conf.

    # To re-enable php in user directories comment the following lines
    # (from <IfModule ...> to </IfModule>.) Do NOT set it to On as it
    # prevents .htaccess files from disabling it.
    <IfModule mod_userdir.c>
        <Directory /home/*/public_html>
            php_admin_value engine Off
        </Directory>
    </IfModule>

Follow the instructions in the comments and restart Apache. Your PHP applications will be back to normal again.

Nth Attempt to Blog

I would have liked to edit the “Hello world!” post but for Mr WordPress’ sake, I will leave it intact without any modification at all. The only entry in the Uncategorized category.

This will be my nth attempt to blog. I started my first attempt around 2003, I think. Back when free web hostings are prevalent and cheap web hostings are not yet cheap. Or maybe, I didn’t find it cheap because I’m just a borap. Borap is not even a term yet then.

As I think about it, the reason I failed in blogging is because I restrict myself into certain styles and I tried to follow them religiously. For example, I once have this blog with seven and only seven categories. And each of the seven categories corresponded to each day of the week. One category for Monday, one category for Tuesday, and so on. And I had to post everyday so in a week, there was one post for each category. I couldn’t keep up with that.

To delay my failure in this blog, I will not adhere to any rules I may think of. I will post only when I feel it. And I will not update for the sake of updating. Therefore, I conclude that this blog will be low in content and will stagnate like all my other blogs and then, will be shut down and laid to rest. Hehe.

I have a feeling that it will take some time before I fail again.
