Trip Blog

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I am going on a trip. I am in the said trip right now. Yay! Originally, I am planning to post a blog each day but I realized that I can’t do it. Instead, I will write a long post about this trip when the time comes. Watch out for it!

Life Update

So here I am again with yet another bulleted update in life.

  • I have resigned from NCTS. Although, I still have a month at work.
  • I am going full-time on my MS studies ASAP. Need to finish now.
  • I hope to get a scholarship to fund my studies. Please please.
  • I am going on a trip this summer. More posts about this soon.
  • I started working on Halalan 2.0.0. Many new features to implement.
  • Since I still don’t have a bike, I am planning to do some running instead.
  • I am still a borap and will always be a borap.
  • I love Aica. Always and forever.

Yes, my life is still lacking life.

Not Happy

I’m not happy now. I found out that NVIDIA Optimus is not supported in Linux. Furthermore, as stated here, “By the way, the Z360 does not have a hardware switch built in, so no nvidia graphics on linux. But at least power management is optimized…”. So here I am, left with a 1GB NVIDIA card that will remain unused in the foreseeable future draining power along the way. “Fortunately”, the BIOS has a way to turn off the Optimus technology. At least, I can save power.

My First Laptop

I want to thank VT for the help. Hehe.

This is my first laptop. I’m really behind. The laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Z360. I’ve bought it yesterday, March 12, 2011. Here are some pics:

The specs are Intel Core i3, 2GB memory (I upgraded it to 4GB because I don’t why), 500GB hard disk, 1GB NVIDIA video card, and some more. I’m currently installing Debian in it. And just for reference, I’ve used debian-6.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso as the installer which can be found here. The installation is straightforward but I have to repeat it three times because on my first try, I forgot to plug the power and the laptop went shutting down while installing the base system. Then on the second try, I forgot to uncheck the “Graphical desktop environment” in the “Software selection” part. I use KDE so I don’t need that selection since it installs GNOME. I’ve manged to finish the installation on the third try. The selections that I’ve checked are “Laptop” and “Standard system utilities” only.

After the installation, I’m left with a working base system. There is no graphical desktop yet. The first thing I did is to upgrade to “unstable” since it contains more recent softwares. The next thing I did is to install xorg by typing “apt-get install xorg” in the terminal as root. Now, I’m currently installing KDE using the command “apt-get install kde-full”. This may take some time. Here’s hoping that everything works afterwards.

Overall, I’m happy that I have my own laptop now. Hopefully, this will be my laptop for years to come.

Random Thoughts on Random Things

I’m supposed to write a list of random thoughts in this post but I can’t think straight. I’m very disorganized right now, especially my mind. Hmmm. What to do? What to do? I don’t know what to do. I want to code but I can’t seem to find the time. I got some ideas but I can’t push forward to implement them. Also, I want to teach CS courses. If only I have the qualified grades…

In other news, I think ‘Melo should stay in Denver and Chisato does not blend well with °C-ute. Then, there is this thing that I wish and hope to be approved. Please? Hehe. I also need a paying sideline or two to fund a certain something.

I feel like I’m regressing. I should be preparing for the future now but I’m still stuck in mediocrity. Sigh, the life of a bobong mahirap.

Rekindling

After wasting my free time to unproductive activities these past few months, I think I should start giving time to things that I need to do. To start off, I have to find a topic for my CS 298. Panic panic. Hehe. Next is the design of Halalan 2.0. This is really really overdue. And since CodeIgniter 2.0 is very close to coming out, coding should start soon. Then, there is this project that is interesting to me in the sense that all technologies that will be used are different from most of the projects that I’ve been involved so far. These are just three things and there are more.

Here is hoping that I will be true to my words this time. Hehe.
